A hook cut in basketball is an offensive maneuver where a player V-cuts or simulates moving in one direction, then sharply hooks back or pivots toward the basket to receive a pass, often creating space for a layup. This technique is used to lose a defender, usually from the slot or wing, and can be followed by a jump hook shot.
